Even though the BPO industry is thriving in the Philippines with government support, recent studies still reveal gaps in employee health and safety measures for both physical and mental well-being. Especially since the pandemic brought significant changes to work structures and employee perspectives, it's more important than ever to stay proactive in our approach.
As noted in a 2024 study in Public Health in Practice, “Achieving worker well-being necessitates comprehensive and adaptable health programs and partnerships…”
At OBP, we recognize this growing need to be holistic and flexible in our strategies. To give you a glimpse of what we do, here are some of the ways we support our employees’ health and safety—physically, mentally, and socially.
OBP facilitates various events, offering free and accessible ways for employees to receive support in their well-being. For instance, we organized a week-long program where our wellness partners set up booths to offer massages, eye check-ups, medicine samples, and more!

We also conducted extensive training sessions on First Aid and Basic Life Support — Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to support not only the present well-being of our employees, but also their preparedness for future health emergencies.

Lastly, we know that some of our employees, such as those who are pregnant or persons with disabilities (PWDs), require additional care and attention. To support their comfort and well-being in the workplace, we provide them with the appropriate accommodations and considerations. Employees are also encouraged to prioritize their health with access to a rest area where they can nap and a clinic where they can request medications.

Of course, we can’t forget about mental health. Alongside raising awareness of physical conditions, emerging viruses, and environmental factors through internal communication, we acknowledge that mental health is equally important. In fact, we once initiated a support forum, as we believe a sense of community is vital to mental well-being.
Caring for our mental well-being involves engaging in hobbies that bring us joy and help us unwind. That’s why we also have breakout rooms where our employees can relax, play games, read books, watch shows, play music, or just catch up with their work friends in their free time!

However, we understand that internal struggles can be difficult to express and address. We take workload balance and burnout prevention seriously, so to provide a more private way for employees to seek support, we have the Employee Care Program – Stress Scale. This tool allows employees to voluntarily complete a short mental well-being assessment at their discretion.
Through this approach, Human Resources can reach out to those who need it the most and offer support. Employees can choose whether or not they wish to discuss their concerns with HR, especially if the results indicate moderate to high stress levels, ensuring their privacy isn’t invaded.
A supportive culture is not possible without supportive management. At OBP, open communication is fostered by encouraging one-on-one meetings directly with team leads and managers. We also make it a standard practice to provide feedback forms and suggestion boxes, allowing employees to anonymously share their thoughts and ideas for improvement.
We’re always watching out for our employees, that’s why one of our health and well-being initiatives include annual physical examinations and vaccinations. During this period, we asked some of our employees thoughts. According to them, it has been nothing but beneficial.
Not only is it harder to personally go to a hospital to get their own checkups, but people also don’t really initiate it due to their busy schedules. Having access to these onsite where they don’t have to travel and wait in line is a huge advantage!
Our initiatives to promote health and safety don't stay on resource pages or in friendly reminders. We put our best foot forward and provide for them. We really make sure our team is fit to work because, for us, well-being means putting their health first at all times.
